Mardi Gras will soon be here with all the festive and fun activities. The traditional start of Mardi Gras is signaled by the end of Christmas and the Yule season on 12th Night of January 6th. What can be more fun than the first king cake on this joyous day. The Computer Science Department and the new Cyber Collaboratory at LSUS will be starting a new tradition in keeping with these hallowed activities. We will have a 12th Byte++ on January 12th. This event will follow on the traditional 12th Night and provide a festive Mardi Gras style tableaux bal masque. This will be done in a family friendly fashion so that people of all ages will be able to participate and share in the occasion.
The term 12th Byte++ refers to cyber and technology aspects and points to the purpose of raising funds and awareness for innovation and creative activities at LSUS. But we want to focus on the regular fun activities of a Mardi Gras event and perhaps even include some tech related aspects.
We will have food and music as any good Mardi Gras event should. We will also stage our tableaux which will act out various scenes in keeping with the theme of the evening – “12”. I am sure you can guess what might be some of the acts to bring this theme to life. But don’t guess, come join us and perhaps even become a part of the tableaux as these varied acts are performed. The tableaux will end with the selection of our royal court and the Grand March. An enjoyable family evening is planned and we hope this will become a new tradition for the entire community. We encourage guests to come in any appropriate attire for a Mardi Gras event – formal attire, Mardi Gras parade watcher or costume.
